As part of a pre construction avifaunal study for a proposed wind farm we had to conduct a series of cliff surveys for Cape Vultures near Tarkastad. While scanning the cliffs we picked up a potential Verreaux’s Eagle nest. Half an hour later a pair of Verreaux’s Eagles soared overhead, but due to being mobbed by a conspiracy of Ravens they flew deeper into the valley.
This pic is using a Samsung Galaxy S2 through a 40x spotting scope.
The nest is in the bottom right two thirds of the photo.
