Mocker Swallowtail Butterfly

A lucky picture of a Mocker Swallowtail female (Papilio dardanus)! This butterfly has a number of female forms, each of which mimics another distasteful butterfly which is poisonous to birds. This form mimics a butterfly known as the Chief (Amauris echeria) which also flies in and around our Garden Route forests from mid to late summer.
