As the austral summer kicks in and South Africa prepares for the annual summer break, here are five tips on how to be Green and contribute to saving the environment.
Water – buy a reusable water bottle and fill it up when you go out. By doing so you will reduce the amount of plastic waste by not buying bottled water.
Charging – once your batteries / mobile phone / computer / camera has finished charging, unplug the charger and switch the wall socket off to save electricity.
Immerse yourself in nature – go for a walk or cycle from your holiday accommodation at least once a day to reduce driving and save both fuel and reduce carbon emissions.
Keep it local – select locally produced goods and produce in your daily purchases to reduce embedded carbon emissions associated with transport of imported products.
Contribute to a canopy – support a local tree planting scheme to offset some of your carbon footprint attributed to your transport.
Most of all, enjoy your summer break and be safe.
